Vancouver dispensaries received warning letters to shut down operations and stop advertising.

After Vancouver City Council approved new regulations to license medical marijuana dispensaries, Health Minister Rona Ambrose had some heated words on the subject of cannabis.

Marijuana is neither an approved drug nor medicine in Canada and Health Canada does not endorse its use…¬†Storefronts selling marijuana are illegal and under this Conservative Government will remain illegal.¬†We expect the police to enforce the law.

Rona Ambrose

Health Minister

Vancouver dispensaries received warning letters to shut down operations and stop advertising. Unfortunately, our Health Minister hasn’t looked at the evidence and is determined to make things harder for patients. The warning letters were issued immediately after Vancouver decided to regulate dispensaries – with a 30,000 license fee and new restrictions. Ambrose wrote to Vancouver city councillors to make her opinion clear: “legitimizing and normalizing the use and sale of marijuana can have only one effect: increasing marijuana use and addiction.” Her #CannabisClaim is misguided – the effect is more likely to lower crime and help patients access quality medicine. As it is now, patients have difficulty accessing cannabis – with the new rules, several will have to shut down or relocate, but at least these dispensaries will have a touch of legitimacy.

And don’t worry, the Vancouver Police confirmed that they’re not likely to raid any dispensaries or shut any down that comply with the new rules – no matter what the Health Minister says.
